House relevelling

Where the stumps themselves are still in reasonable condition but the floor has drifted out of level, relevelling can bring the house back into line. It is often a cost-effective way to address uneven floors and help protect the structural and cosmetic elements of the home.

What it involves

  1. 1Measuring floor levels across the house to understand where it has moved.
  2. 2Jacking affected areas and adjusting packing between stumps and bearers.
  3. 3Replacing individual stumps where they are no longer serviceable.
  4. 4Re-checking levels once the work is complete.

When it may be appropriate

  • Floors slope or dip, but stumps are mostly sound.
  • A previous restump has settled unevenly over time.
  • Doors have begun to bind after seasonal ground movement.

These signs can have other causes too — an assessment confirms what's going on.

How the scope is set

Relevelling suits some homes but not others. If the inspection finds the stumps themselves are failing, restumping may be the better long-term option — we'll explain the difference.
